Create a short video remix that explains what Remix Culture means to you. Using video footage from any source, we want you to produce a creative, educational and entertaining video remix that communicates a clear message to a wide audience. The video is to be no shorter than 30 seconds and no longer then 3 minutes in duration.

Your Video Remix...

- should not exceed 3 minutes or so in length, including credit sequence
- should not be less than 30 seconds in duration
- should reflect the theme: 'What is Remix Culture?'
- should remix previously published video footage
- may also include your own original footage, typography and effects
- should include a credits sequence at the end attributing all sampled material
- should be licenced with a Creative Commons licence, where applicable

Official Rules

Participation constitutes entrant's full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules. The Total Recut 'What is Remix Culture?' Video Remix Contest ("Contest") commences at 3pm GMT on May 1st, 2008, and ends at 3pm GMT on August 16th, 2008. Contest is sponsored by TotalRecut.com. ("Sponsor") a video remix community website, currently headquartered in Ireland.

Eligibility:
Contest is open to natural persons of any age, from any country.

How to Enter:
Create your own 'What is Remix Culture?' video remix ("Submission") to communicate what remix culture means to you, using the Submission Criteria contained in these rules. Anytime between May 1st, 2008 and July 1st, 2008, access the Total Recut website at http://www.totalrecut.com/contest1.php, complete and submit the Contest Entry Form, and post your entry online. Submissions may be any form of moving image, including but not limited to, video, animation, text and audio in any suitable online video formats. Duration of entry should be no less than 30 seconds, but should not exceed 3 minutes or so, including credit sequence. To be eligible for entry in the Contest, entries must be received by Total Recut by 3pm GMT, July 1st, 2008, according to our time clock. You may enter as many Submissions as you like, but each Submission must be separately entered.

Submission Guidelines:

All prizes are subject to variations in model, colour and availability at the time of prizes being awarded. Images presented on this website are for illustrative purposes. Selection of runners-up prizes are at the sponsor's discretion.

Judging Criteria:
All otherwise eligible entries submitted by the contest end date will be judged according to the criteria as set out by the sponsor. Judging will take place in two rounds. Video pieces will be judged under three broad headings, as follows: Overall Impact (50%) Creativity (25%), Communication (25%). Judges decisions are final.

Round One: Public Voting
Between July 1st and July 16th, 2008, visitors to the TotalRecut.com website may vote for any and all posted entries by voting out of 10 marks, 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest, for each of the three categories: Overall Impact (50%) Creativity (25%) and Communication (25%).

One vote per entry per active email address only. Online votes that are found to be fraudulently generated or duplicated, or associated with inactive or "dummy" email addresses, are subject to disqualification. Sponsor will tabulate all valid online votes cast through the Voting System, calculate and assign each entry's weighted average rating and shall provide the top 10 rated entries as determined by the average rating of each entry to the Panel of Judges on or around August 3rd, 2008.

Online voting period ends at 3pm GMT August 1st, 2008, according to Sponsor's time clock.

10 Submissions will be chosen from among all eligible entries to move on to Round 2 ("Finalists").

Round Two: Judging Panel Voting
A panel of qualified judges will score each of the Finalist Submissions according to the following judging criteria: Overall Impact (50% of overall grade), Creativity (25% of overall grade), and Communication (25% of overall grade). Judges will report which Submission receives the highest score to Total Recut administration and the Submission receiving the highest overall score shall be deemed the winning Submission. In the event of a tie, the tying entries will be rescored until a winner is selected. The videos that score second and third highest, will shall be deemed winners in second and third place respectively. The seven remaining finalists shall be deemed runners-up.

Winner will be notified by e-mail, and/or phone on or about August 16th, 2008. In the event that the winner cannot accept the prize for any reason, the Submission receiving the highest score from the next highest number of judges will be chosen. Sponsor is not responsible for and shall not be liable for late, lost, misdirected, or unsuccessful efforts to notify winners.

General Terms and Conditions:
By participating, entrants agree that TotalRecut.com is not responsible or liable for, and shall be released and held harmless from: (i) telephone, electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet, or computer malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind; (ii) any condition caused by events beyond the control of TotalRecut that may cause the Contest to be disrupted or corrupted; (iii) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Contest; (iv) any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind in connection with or resulting from participation in the Contest, or acceptance of the prize, including without limitation, claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy. TotalRecut is not responsible or liable for Entries that are not successfully submitted by the end of the submission period. TotalRecut reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to suspend or cancel Contest at any time if a computer virus, bug, or other technical problem corrupts the administration, security, or proper conduct of the Contest.
